I am a Maker with diverse experience in science and art. It turns out Adobe Illustrator is the most valuable discrete skill I learned in grad school. However, the process of researching a proposal, finding the resources to do it, solving problems independently, and pulling out all the stops to get things done on schedule seems to be good preparation for running a startup. Who knew?
